In the mid-1970s, I won an all-expenses-paid two-year trip to Tokyo courtesy of Uncle Sam. It was the beginning of a journey into a country and culture that I would come to love. Over the years, I’ve returned to Japan several times to Tokyo and Kyoto as a flaneur with a camera, observing everyday urban life.
